Deeds not Words

ATHLETICS AT ST. BERNARD’S ELEMENTARY

Athletics provide more than just physical activity; they foster overall well-being, encouraging students to stay active and develop lifelong healthy habits. Participation in athletics helps build resilience as students learn to overcome challenges, adapt to competition, and grow from both successes and setbacks.

Team sports also nurture a strong sense of community, teaching the importance of collaboration, trust, and mutual respect among teammates. Additionally, the program emphasizes essential values such as perseverance, dedication, and good sportsmanship, preparing students to handle challenges with grace both on and off the field. By engaging in these activities, students not only improve their physical health but also gain critical social and emotional skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

BERNARDIAN ATHLETES: UPHOLDING EXCELLENCE AND SPORTSMANSHIP

Bernardian athletes proudly represent St. Bernard’s Elementary School both on and off the field. They are expected to conduct themselves with dignity and respect, demonstrating the values of young ladies and gentlemen. Athletes must wear appropriate attire during practices and the correct uniforms during games, always exhibiting good sportsmanship towards teammates and competitors.

At St. Bernard’s, we take pride in living out our motto, “Deeds not Words.” We remind all members of our community—students, parents, families, fans, administrators, faculty, and staff—that unsportsmanlike behavior, including booing or derogatory comments, is not tolerated.

Bernardians strive to be role models of good sportsmanship, treating others with the same respect they wish to receive.

Our team sports are overseen by Athletic Director Steve Maki, with the support of dedicated parent volunteers who coach individual teams.
