History

St. Bernard’s Elementary School
Our school was founded in 1886 to educate the children of Irish immigrant families who first came to Fitchburg to build the railroad. Started as separate schools for boys and girls, STB has educated generations of families in Fitchburg. It was the first of many schools founded in New England by the Sisters of the Presentation.

254 Summer Street
The Sisters and the parish re-imagined STB in the late 1950s and caused the current school co-educational school to be built at 254 Summer Street. It was a “state of the art” building when it opened in 1966 for students from Grades 1 – 8.

St. Bernard’s Elementary School
STB continues its proud tradition of excellence in Catholic education with students from Pre-K and Kindergarten to Grade 8. Students are drawn from 3 cities and 11 towns across northern Worcester County and southern New Hampshire from families that represent the greater diversity of our local communities. STB continues to be a parish school led and supported by St. Bernard’s Parish Worshipping at St. Camillus Church.
